My friend Megan shared a video with me a little while ago. I watched it, and wept. I cried not just because I could see how my daughter felt in the video, but I could see how see how “a good kid” could get mixed up in bullying.
A bully isn’t always “the bad guy”.
They could be the kid next door who helps you carry in your groceries, the teens at church, the tutor at school. It could be the kid who thinks they are just “kidding around” and not realizing they are causing real pain. Just a simple joke can easily get out of hand. Often they gain speed, and end up defining people. A joke is never fully when it’s intent is to belittle someone else. And for the record, it’s not just kids and teens doing it. Adults “joke around” at others expense all that time.
It’s not funny, it’s not cool, and it’s NOT ok. Ever.
This video has a great message to share. It’s worth the 10 minutes to watch. Its’ definitely worth sharing with kids you care about.
We are a Christian family, and there is a religious tone to the video, but even if you’re not religious, take a look. The message is universal: the Golden Rule: Be Kind.
As for bullying? Just STOP IT.
