Butter in my coffee? I wondered why that was even a thing until I heard from some friends who swore by it. They said that starting their day with a creamy cup of coffee frothy with butter and oil had them feeling more energetic and less “snacky”. When Bulletproof Coffee reached out to me and asked me to try it for a week, I decided to go for it. I’m SO glad I did!
We’re right in the middle of the Holidays and things are CRAZY- like more things to do each day than there is time, and then add to it all a horrific cold that struck each of us in our family, and I had doubts about getting everything done. I was TIRED people, really tired. I was super excited to get my coffee and stuff to try it. I couldn’t wait to get started.
Here’s what I think: It DOES NOT taste oily- I usually drink my coffee with a splash of cream, and it it tasted similar. The key is to use a blender to whip in the Ghee and Brain Oil. Some people get a lovely foamy froth on their coffee but I am apparently froth deficient. That’s okay, it’s still tasted good, and did what it was supposed to do- it got me GOING.
I noticed immediately that I had more energy. I’ll be honest. Lately I’ve been ready for bed WAY too early and I wanted to eat ALL THE COOKIES to help me keep going, but things changed once I started drinking the Bulletproof Coffee.
What was the magic stuff in my coffee?
The Coffee- The proprietary Bulletproof Process optimizes every step of coffee production for performance by minimizing the opportunity for performance-robbing mold toxins. Ingesting mold toxins can contribute to chronic health issues. Bulletproof® Upgraded Coffee Beans are meticulously grown at high altitude on single estates in Guatemala, hand-harvested, carefully processed, handled and roasted to maintain maximum integrity and flavor. The final roast then undergoes proprietary lab testing to verify that our coffee meets the Bulletproof quality and purity standards. I liked this brew- its smooth and mellow. I usually like a darer brew, so I’m looking forward to trying the darker roast Mentalist or French Roasts.
The Butter – or Ghee – Ghee is a nutrient enriched, purified butter, which when blended with your coffee creates a smooth creamy taste and a kick of energy. There’s all kinds of science attached to it, like grass-fed butter is high in butyrate, a short-chain fatty acid. Studies show that butyrate can both prevent and decrease inflammation in humans. Butter is nutrient-dense. A single tablespoon of butter contains 500 IU vitamin A, more carotenes than carrots, and high amounts of vitamin K2, vitamin D, and vitamin E. The truth is, to me, it’s like the cream I normally put in my coffee, but with only the GOOD stuff! (PS, you can use it to cook with, also, as I learned while making some sauteed Chicken and broccoli and I ran out of Olive Oil- it was super tasty!)
The Brain Oil- Here comes the ENERGY! Brain Oil is made from 100% coconut oil. It has no odor, or flavor, but it’s FULL of the GOOD fats. At my last checkup, I was told my BAD fats were great, but my GOOD fats needed a boost- and who wants to take those nasty fish oil capsules? (fish burps, anyone?) This is a GREAT way to boost those good fats! Brain Octane Oil has 16x the healthy fats of Coconut oil, improving health and energy with regular use. I’m not scientific, but there is a whole lot of information about how and why the Brain Octane Oil is good for you and gives you an energy boost.
The Result:I definitely had more energy. I had a wicked cold that normally would have me knocked out for days. and I was only really bad for ONE day. I noticed that I had a lot more energy in the morning and it seemed to last all day. At least I was able to stay up later and get stuff done. There were a few extra side effects- I was FULL! My appetite was satiated after having my morning cup of coffee. As a diabetic, I have to eat breakfast to keep my sugar numbers under control but I was having no problems at all with a single slice of toast with peanut butter and my coffee- it kept me going until lunchtime. In fact, the whole week I was drinking Bulletproof coffee, my blood sugar numbers were well under control. Coincident? I think not. It also helped that I had more energy so I was moving more. Speaking of moving….
Another added benefit, for me, was, well, to put it delicately, it kept things MOVING. Yup, it helped me poop. One of the medications I take for diabetes can cause constipation, and I usually need to take extra fiber to keep things comfortable. This whole week I haven’t had to have fiber once, and things are just moving along nicely. I love this added side benefit!
So, is Bulletproof Coffee for real? Yes, it is. I think that it adds real value to my morning and helps me keep up with the crazy things routines that I have, while helping me live healthier. There is a whole bunch of awesome stuff on the Bulletproof site, that I want to try, like the Vanilla Shortbread Collegan Bar, with 12 G of Protein and 14 Carbs, a PERFECT snack for Diabetics and I’m intrigued by the InstaMix- because to be truthful, I love how easy it looks! I will also be trying the darker Mentalist or French Kick Roast coffees, as well. Mist of all I’m SUPER excited to try the Hot Chocolate. It’s a favorite of mine that I don’t get to indulge in often, due to Diabetes, but this Hot Chocolate is one I can drink! I like that the BulletProof Lifestyle is low carb which is perfect for my diabetic lifestyle.
I was compensated to try Bulletproof Coffee for myself and give my true opinion about it, and I like it so much that I’ll be getting more!
