Of all the things I thought I’d do in my lifetime, I never thought I’d be writing an anti bullying blog. Then, I nearly lost my teen daughter to suicide after being she was bullied mercilessly.

I want to help other parents who are feeling the same way by sharing what I know, and what worked for me.

My daughter is Ally, and she writes LoserGurl.com . She has her story, and you can read it on her blog. This blog isn’t about her. It’s about how I learned of the extent of her bullying, and how I helped her. It’s how I’m helping my 12 year old son deal with bullying. Its about helping other parents to protect our children. It’s also about how I coped, as a mother with the pain my children were, and still do endure.

Bullying is a very real, very common, almost epidemic problem. It’s not a problem that is local to any one place, but is global. It’s everywhere from schools to sports to church and anywhere you look. Bullying has changed from when “we were kids”. I was bullied as a child. I was “that kid” that was the butt of every joke, the last kid picked, always, never invited to parties, and pretty much shunned. However, once the last bell rang, I went home and was able to get away from it. The bullying stayed at the schoolyard, and home was a safe haven. It’s different for today’s generation. They have no way to escape. Cyber-bullying is rampant and even though our kids might be able to turn off a phone, or a computer, the hate is still there when they power up again.

We need to help stop bullying where it beings. In our homes. I am not a professional. I am a mom who has lived, and is still living through parenting her children through bullying. I may not have all the answers, but I will share what I know. We need to stand up for our kids and help end bullying.

I will be here to protect my son and daughter when they need me. I want to be here for other parents when they need help when their children are in trouble.

Honestly, bullying has always been around, even I experienced it growing up as an overweight child, but it’s so much more in-your-face now with social media and the internet. What I’m finding is that SO MANY PARENTS seem to be lost in how to deal with bullying, so they do to two extremes, say “kids will be kids” and ignore it, or go over board and flip out on every little thing. It’s hard to find the medium here. Hoping my experience can help. Reply

My sister ended up breaking down and resorting to physical violence (she punched the kid in the face) before anyone took her serious. It turns out my sister wasn’t the only kid being bullied- and other kids got it worse. It is sad because my mom and sister tried to do the right thing but no one seemed to help. Reply

Our parents used to call it “picking on you” and “everyone does it”. Now it’s identified and there is help for the victim. Patra December 20, 2014 I myself am a victim of bullying and Attempted too commit suicide within the next year I will be writing a book about my experiences. As of now I am building a base of support and guidance it would really help if as many people as possible became a part of this huge step in my life. She nearly lost her daughter because of suicide. She was so desperate of being at school and in the internet. She also compares then and today. When she was a child she also got bullied at school. After the bell rang she ran home and for her, her home was heaven. She always was happy when she was home again. But today she says it’s different. You aren’t able to flee away from the bulliers because they are everywhere. In the internet or outside. I stumbled across your blog entry and I think it should come to an end. There are so many bulliers round us and you can’t get away of them. I can really understand you and the extremely difficult situations you have been in. Considering the fact that children get bullied at school. Parents could change that. They have to go to the teachers or if it’s really difficult to solve it then they should go to the school’s headmaster. They should talk to them and find out the offenders. Hopefully the bullier agrees and stops bullying then. It’s important to tell him/her that bullying is criminal. I think if you threaten the bullier with the police he maybe, hopefully will stop it. I would appreciate it if you teach your childs how to deal with this situations. I know it’s unusual to do this but you state that your daughter nearly suicided her and so it’s really important. My instructor tasked us with writing a summary of our paper and posting it to the comments section of a blog dealing with the issue. Thank you any potential readers! Have a good weekend! Bullying is an important issue in society, that has many side-effects on all that are involved. The bully may experience long term issues with lacking empathy towards others. A victim of bullying may have a variety of side effects from stomachaches to suicidal thoughts. Although bullying is never the victim’s fault, they are singled out often for some differing characteristic. These can anything including having scarring acne, a different sexual orientation, or a speech impediment. A person may be both a bully and a victim (bully-victim), who is retaliating for things that happened to them in the past. Bystanders also play an important role, as potential agitators or intervening parties. There are many options being tried to combat bullying with varying degrees of effectiveness. One consistent problem that is common to bullying is communication issues on all levels. Parents find that administrators may not respond appropriately to the incident and the same may ring true for the bully’s parents as well. Some successful programs have implemented group setting training and therapy as a way to encourage positive peer interactions as well as developing empathy. Other schools simply adopt “zero tolerance” stance on bullying, in which the bully is suspended, or expelled. Even though many schools currently use a zero or no tolerance stance towards bullying the most effective step to be taken in eliminating this issue, is improving communication between staff, parents, and students.
